Wykazałam się refleksem szachisty, ale i tak napiszę. Jak wiadomo, więźniów w więzieniu Guantanamo torturowano na różne sposoby. Między innymi puszczano im muzykę różnych zachodnich wykonawców, potwornie głośno i przez 24 godziny na dobę, pozbawiając ich w ten sposób snu oraz w ogóle doprowadzając do obłędu. Niektórzy autorzy wybranych utworów zareagowali tak, jak James Hetfield:

It represents something that they don’t like — maybe freedom, aggression… I don’t know… freedom of speech. And then part of me is kind of bummed about it that people worry about us being attached to some political statement because of that. We’ve got nothing to do with this and we’re trying to be as apolitical as possible, ’cause I think politics and music, at least for us, don’t mix. Że tak zapytam – WTF? Że co? Jaka wolność, jaka freedom of speech? Czy komuś tu zupełnie odbiło, czy nie może pogodzić się z tym, że najnowsza płyta jest do kitu i plecie takie trzy po trzy? Bo aż nie chce mi sie wierzyć, że mówił to serio. Może czegoś nie zrozumiał, biedny James. A jeśli rzeczywiście tak myślał, to udało się Metallice bring people together, nie ma co. I może on faktycznie wierzy, że muzyka nie ma nic wspólnego z polityką – choć tu mógłby posłuchać niektórych własnych kawałków – ale może mogłaby wiązać się z przyzwoitością? Przykro mi czytać coś takiego. Zwłaszcza, że Jaymz wykazuje nie tylko zupełny brak empatii oraz poczucia przyzwoitości, ale też jakiś kompletny szacunku do własnych dokonań. Nie mówiąc juz o tym, że ta wypowiedź jest zwyczajnie głupia:

Why should the Iraqis be any different?” Such posturing may go with the territory for an artist of the Metallica genre, so there is no need to speculate about whether Hetfield is being naive or wilfully ignorant. But no sane person voluntarily plays a single tune at earsplitting volume, over and over, 24 hours a day, and expects to stay sane. […]
Nie wszyscy muzycy zachowują się, na szczęście, jak banda dupków. Trent Reznor na swojej stronie zareagował tak: […] It’s difficult for me to imagine anything more profoundly insulting, demeaning and enraging than discovering music you’ve put your heart and soul into creating has been used for purposes of torture. If there are any legal options that can be realistically taken they will be aggressively pursued, with any potential monetary gains donated to human rights charities. Thank GOD this country has appeared to side with reason and we can put the Bush administration’s reign of power, greed, lawlessness and madness behind us.[…].
